GopherCon Europe 2025 - TinyGo HackSession (2x)

GopherCon Europe 2025 is over, part of TinyGo team went there to do a TinyGo HackSession as previous years, plus Ayke had a talk about multicore support too!. I can say it was amazing and I had a blast there: meeting old friends, making new ones and a bunch of interesting talks you should have listened to, and let me tell you how good the food was.

I should start saying that last year I couldn't enjoy it as much because I had some family issues and my suitcase with a lot of GopherBadges, I had to give to some nice gophers that paid for them, (and my clothes) were delayed. This year it went better, besides a few delayed flights and the usual airport shenanigans: my personal record with 5 times in a row I was selected "at random" at the metal gate for drug test, luckily the 6th time I broke the curse (that doesn't mean my carry-on wasn't checked - as usual).

There were two hacksessions, one on the previous day or workshop day and another the last day. I could only attend the first one. There wasn't as many people as previous years, but it was fun. I get to try Yurii's FPV rig for his RC planes, some work was done to support Pimoroni's Presto desktop companion, we get to test the new guide and examples for bluetooth and wifi (it works amazing now),...

CHIP GOPHERS

I also bring with me my latest invention: CHIP GOPHERS. The cutest non-action toy gopher out there. Once I had the design of the new stickers, it was a matter of time to create a 3D version of it. You can change its face like it's some sort of potato-head (or Mr. Potato) but with magnet which is way cooler. Hands were designed to be interchangeable too, but I think we get a nice pose. I donate them to the organization which in turn auctioned them (at least two of them as far as I know) with the proceedings going to GoBridge, I can't be happier with the outcome. In case you are wondering, the 3D model is work of my friend Fran, a really talented 3D artist that helped make this project a reality.

Ayke had the opportunity to talk about the recent multicore support in TinyGo (slides here), yes, multicore works, it's real! And Ron gave a small update about the last 6 months in TinyGo world (slides here). Videos will take a bit longer.

I couldn't shake the feeling there were something wrong or missing like last year, but I had a truly good time. I'm honored and happy they invited us for our little hacksession (even more knowing there were some issues this year with the logistics). Many many thanks to Donna, Natalie (+baby), Valentine and the rest of the organization. Super cool, 11/10.
